Are you tired of Christmas in July? Are you thinking I just broke out my bikini and I’m sitting poolside sipping on my pina colada and you want me to think about snow?! Well to all you bah-humbugs out there, lighten up and soak up the summer for as long as you can. I am not saying forget summer as the beach is one of my favorite places to be, I am just planting the seed to plan ahead. Whether it is the prime day sales, the shopping channels month long holiday specials or planning the company holiday party July. It may just be your month to prepare to be the star on top of the Christmas tree this year!
Shopping ahead has its perks, special pricing, no stress of the holiday rush, you have more time to seek out the perfect gift for everyone. It is easier on the pocketbook if you buy a present or two each month instead of draining the savings account in December or getting shocked in January when the credit card bill arrives in your inbox.
Planning the company holiday party can be stressful, trying to get the right date, the right time, the right music etc. Well, consider booking in July for December as you will have more options available to you leading you to have more time to negotiate and to think outside the box. We have so many competing demands during the month of December so mix it up. Try a Thursday night party or a Sunday afternoon allowing time for folks to go to church, grandma’s house, catch the game and still enjoy the party. Consider a Saturday Breakfast with Santa (after all celebrating Christmas with your associate’s children is fun and it allows you to have special bonding time).
Consider having your holiday party in conjunction with one your local charities holiday galas. You and your associates are supporting local a charity, living one of your core values, you are spending your money for a good cause and someone else does all the planning. Call the conference center or hotel where the charity event is taking place after you purchase the gala tickets for your associates. Arrange for a pre-gala reception or an after gala party in their bar or private room. If you are doing a separate gift exchange or making announcements you can still do that and partake in the gala. If the gala has a host bar call the venue catering manager and have them set up a bar tab for your company or pre-purchase drink tickets for your associates.
These are all easy things to do while you are floating in the pool soaking up the rays, (Santa and his elves are doing the same thing as July is vacation month at the North Pole). So put on the sunblock, turn up the music and celebrate Christmas in July! It is never too early to plan ahead; who knows you might just make it off of the naughty list this year.
